Historical Note: Humphrey Wells was born January 27, 1801 in Sedgwick, Maine to William Carrel (b. 1759-d. 1839) and Mary Herrick (b. 1768-d. 1844). Humphrey married Hannah Allen (b. 1804) on August 20, 1829. They had children Julius Calvin (b. 1829-d. ?), Huldah H. (b. 1832), Araminta D. (b. 1835), Rufus F. (b. 1845-d. 1932), Reyes S. (abt. 1848) and Rosa D. (b. 1848). The family resided in Sedgwick, Maine which later became Brooklin, Maine.  Humphrey Wells was a ships carpenter and worked on vessels such as the E. L. Thompson (Schooner), Tarquin (Schooner), and Abby Watson (Brig), Marcellus (Schooner), James (Schooner), Mechanic (Schooner), Grecian (Schooner), Live Oak (Schooner), Centurion (Schooner), Watson (Brig), H. W. Wellington (Brig), Susan Ross (Schooner), Alpine (Schooner), A. Lawrence (Schooner) and Florence (Schooner).  He was also employed by the town of Brooklin as a surveyor and served as selectman between 1848 to 1862. He was assigned as overseer of the poor on March 13, 1858 and March 10, 1859 (B1/F1).  He died on August 11, 1862 in Brooklin.
