Title: William M. Eldridge, Inc. Records, 1930-1939

Abstract
Naval architecture firm in New York City.
Catalogs, primarily of marine equipment, inc. engines, hardware, small boats, canvas, etc., sent to the naval architecture firm. Intended for yachts. Includes a small amount of correspondence addressed to firm, principal partner William M. Eldridge, and associate Holbrook Burnham Smith. Also includes a few sample products.
Administrative/Biographical History
Because of the lack of provenance information, little can be said about the collection. William M. Eldridge was a naval architect with a practice on Madison Avenue,
NYC, at least by 1930. Sometime in the next few years he took Holbrook B. Smith as
an associate. Smith apparently left the firm in 1939 and went into business for himself in
Red Bank, NJ. From the nature of the catalogs, it would appear that the firm was engaged primarily in yacht design. Whether the catalogs were in the possession of Eldridge or Smith after 1939 is not clear. No references to the firm have been found elsewhere.
